Tiana

Snow White

Snow White looks at herself in the mirror and puts on sunscreen. She makes sure she has it on her ears. Last time, she forgot them and spent a week with red burning ears. Snow White walks to the fruit shop. Passed the apple season, which always makes her feel inexplicably nauxious, she  feels reasonably well. Snow White works  the whole day  as a cashier. When the evening comes, she catches a bus to night school. She studies to be a nurse. "It's easy to get a job!", said one of her aunts. But what she really wanted  was  to be  a veterinarian. She had always had a way with animals. Snow White saves money. She does not eat anything during class breaks. Midnight, when she gets home, there is a plate of rice and beans saved for her in the fridge. She fries an egg. She eats and passes out. Such a heavy slumber she doesn't even know how she manages to get up the following day. Snow White saves the money from the snacks she doesn't eat at school and dreams to vi...

Come e desmaia.

The lizard and the delicate winged creature

" What's on your mind?" asked the lizard. "Worlds are on my mind. Worlds lying beyond this insignificant place of ours." Replied the little delicate creature.  "And what would you do if you could reach them?" inquired still the reptile.  "I would sunk my teeth deep on each one of them. I'd live more than a thousand lives. I 'd dive into all my passions and follow on every whim." answered the seemingly frail winged animal.  The lizard smirked: "But you don't even have teeth, silly ignoble dreamer!"  "Be certain, I would grow some!"  Retorted the creature, turning around and resolutely flapping  its wings in the direction of the silvery shining sky.  The lizard remained still, its cold blood even colder,  its eyes, static, staring at the imenseness above.  The creature, it never saw it again. But now, the lonely lizard could not help, it could not control, it could not resist. While standing on its rock, feeling ...

A little bird fell off a tree

Small, frail and cold, it shivered. I took it. In the shell of my hands I protected it.  I brought it home.  I sheltered it from the rain, from the cold, from the wind that brought it down. Its big eyes stared at me. "Am I dying?", "Is there hope?", they questioned. I poured tiny drops of water. They slipped from my fingertips. Its frail beak took them avidly. I fed it the best I could. "Forget it! You can never save it!", friends would have said, had friends been given the chance. They were not! I was determined to make the bird survive. I could not take any more loss, I could not take any more death. I decided, omnipotently, it would not die, just like I once decided I would not die.  It did not! It did not die! It survived! And I set it up on a tree when it seemed stronger. It showed no recollection of the rain, of the cold, of the wind. No gratitude in its eyes. It was not needed.  No fear of the vastness either.  The vastness had always b...

The Butt Obsession - Very brief reflection on the matter

In Brazil there is always someone checking someone else's butt. Those were her thoughts while she waited for the light to turn green and a black robust woman passed by a mullato middle aged guy at the corner. She observed them.  The man looked up for a second, watching an inexistent bird in the sky. As soon as she was two steps away from him he looked down to the left and checked her butt out. It was a discreet look, she thought. Some of them almost get their necks broken just to chek out some butt. "A national obsession!" She heard someone honking a horn, the light was green. "Man, if I put my butt on the window, they might even stop the nonsense!". "Run me over!", she screamed instead. She pressed the pedal and moved on.

- A dor é minha, ué? Ouviu a porta batendo.

Quente

Não conseguia dormir. A cama lhe parecia quente. A camisola estava ensopada.

Hot

She could not sleep. The bed felt just hot. The windows were all opened, but there was no wind. Looking through them you'd think the end of the World had come. The light from the lamp posts illuminated the streets as usual, but there was no movement, no sound. The trees stood still, not a leaf out of place.Nobody driving by, nobody getting out of a car or walking a dog, nothing moved. She stood up. Her nightgown was soaked. She picked up another one, a lighter one, in the drawer. She put it on and went, barefoot, to the kitchen. Lots of ice and water poured in a large glass. She took big gulps and let the water drip  through the corners of her mouth to her chest. It helped, for a few minutes.  She sat on the couch, turned on the TV and zapped through the channels. The couch's fabric glued to her body.  She turned off the TV, got up and walked around once more.  She turned the cold water faucet of the bathtub. It f...

Cold

He woke up feeling cold, a shiver through his body. He tried to feel her presence, his eyes still closed. No heat no scent, nothing.  He opened his eyes, slowly, and looked around, confused. She was not there. There was no trace of her.  He closed his eyes and imagined the texture of her hair through his fingers. He felt the softness of her skin against his body, the contour of her hips, the moisture of her lips, her tongue inside his ears, his mouth.  The proximity, the movement, the drops of sweat. He felt warm and alive. He closed his eyes and slept again.

Opposites

He slept during most of the day. Occasionally waking up to have a drink or grab something to eat. Not really something, but the same thing. He'd always eat the same thing. He would stretch himself with laziness, but elegance. Walk towards the kitchen slowly, silently. He would then, take a sip, grab a bite and go back to sleep. Sometimes on the bed, sometimes in the living room, on the couch. He'd go there, to the living room, when looking for little naps, when the noise of her typing would not upset his sleep.   From time to time, she would startle him a little, when placing her cup on the glass table, pushing a chair or letting a pen fall on the ground. He would look at her with his big bright  green eyes and give her a fixed stare. Few minutes later he would go back to sleep again. He would spend his days like this, confined, practically static. While awake, he'd be either eating, looking at her or gazing through the window. He rarely utte...

Opostos

Dormia a maior parte do dia. Ocasionalmente acordando para beber ou comer algo. Na verdade, era sempre a mesma coisa. Ele comia sempre a mesma coisa.

Chocolate

A little girl silently reaches for a cristal bowl full of chocolate. Anticipating its texture and taste, she had tiptoed quietly through the furniture and there she was. She had to stand on her toes and stretch her body upwards. Her little hands made two attempts. The first just brushed the candy lightly.  On the second, she managed to grab the edge of the bowl which turned slowly, falling from the table. The noise, chocolate and glass scattered all over the floor. The heads turning on her direction, the momentaneous deep silence, the reproaching severe looks, the embarrassment; the thin, yet persistent, stream of blood running on her foot, the loud cry that followed.  As a grown up she would remember that failure every time she had to try something new. No matter how sweet the conquest might seem, there was always the fear of getting hurt, getting cut, but there was mostly the fear of how she'd be looked at.
